CM Punk

Former WWE champion CM Punk is still undefeated in the UFC. But that’s because he hasn’t fought a single fight yet since signing with the world’s largest MMA promotion.

When it was officially announced in December 2014 that CM Punk, whose real name is Phil Brooks, had indeed decided to trade the professional wrestling ring to the UFC’s Octagon, the UFC was confident that he would make his MMA debut in 2015:

But they year came and passed, but CM Punk was nowhere near the Octagon. According to Duke Rufous who is Brooks’ trainer, a shoulder issue has delayed the former WWE superstar’s debut. But in a November 2015 interview, UFC President Dana White said that he was “hopeful” that Brooks would make his much anticipated UFC debut “by mid 2016”.

Now, that rumor has a possible opponent in Mickey Gall:

Gall is a New Jersey based welterweight who is 1-0 and trains out of Miller Brothers MMA which is owned by UFC regulars Jim and Dan Miller. White “spotted” Gall during the latest episode of “Dana White Looking For a Fight” (shown Monday in FightPass) and got his attention when Gall called out Punk after winning his first MMA bout in a regional promotion:

“Hey Dana White, I don’t know if CM Punk has an opponent, but I would love to fight that man, CM Punk. Hey, CM Punk, I’m 1-0.”

White didn’t sign Gall right there on the spot. But he actually said:“I like where your head’s at.”.

Gall then made his call out official, via Twitter:

Interestingly, CM Punk tweeted about his possible UFC debut a couple of days before Gall’s name entered the picture:

Was CM Punk really referring to 200 as his age? Or was he referencing the big UFC 200 event in July which does fit the bill as “mid-206” as stated by Dana White? Interesting.

Remember back in December 2014 when White gave a description of CM Punk’s possible first opponent? Said White:

“He wanted to give it a shot, so we gave him an opportunity. It’s not like Brock Lesnar. We’re not going to throw the kitchen sink at him. Lesnar had a wrestling background. [CM Punk] is going to fight a guy who is 1-0, 1-1, 2-1 — something like that.”

Well Mickey Gall is “something like that” and yes, he’s caught Dana’s attention too so he could be the guy.
